What is visual art?

Visual art is an art form that makes works that are primarily visual in nature, such as ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, graphic arts, design, crafts, photography, video, filmmaking and architecture. These definitions must not be considered too strict because many artistic disciplines (performing arts, conceptual art, textile arts) involve aspects of visual arts and other types of art. Also included in visual arts are applied arts such as industrial design, graphic design, fashion design, interior design and decorative arts.

The use of the term "visual arts" now includes visual arts as well as decorative arts and crafts, but this is not always the case. Before the Arts and Crafts Movement in England and elsewhere at the turn of the 20th century, the term 'artist' was often limited to people working in fine arts (such as painting, sculpture, or graphic arts) and not crafts, crafts, or the media applied Arts. This difference was emphasized by artists from the Arts and Crafts Movement who valued as many forms of vernacular art form as possible. The art school makes a difference between art and crafts by maintaining that craftsmen cannot be considered as practitioners of art. (From Wikipedia 2012)

What is Public Art?
Public art is exactly like that, art in public space. The term "public art" can give rise to a historic bronze statue of a soldier riding a horse in a park. Today, public art can take various forms, sizes and scales - and can be temporary or permanent. Public art can include murals, sculptures, memorials, integrated architectural or landscape architectural works, community arts, digital new media, and even shows and festivals! (Americans for Art)
